Add a Favicon to your website
February 4, 2008 by Jean
A Favicon (favorite icon) is the small icon associated with a website that is displayed by most web browsers in the address bar and next to a website bookmark. The favicon adds to your website overall feel and helps your visitors identify your website among other bookmarks and open tabs:
Create your favicon
Your favicon must be in the .ICO file format. .ICO is just another graphic file format, that can encapsulate various sizes of icons. You want to create a favico.ico file containing a single 16x16 pixels icon.
A few alternatives:
- Use the free ICO file format plugin for Photoshop.
- Convert an existing graphic file to the .ico format using an utility like png2ico.
- Use an online favicon generator like favikon.com.
- Free Favicon.ico files are available for download from a number of websites.
- Contact us at support@ugal.com with a 16x16 pixels graphic file, we will convert it to the .ico format.
Upload your favicon to your website
Once your favicon.ico file is ready, login to your website, go to the design tab, and click the "change your favico.ico file" link at the bottom of the page. You will be able to upload your favicon to your website from there:
Once the file is uploaded, clear your browser cache and voila, your shiny new icon will show up.
Happy faviconing!
