Introducing HTML banners

November 8, 2011

Jean

Banners are an important aspect of a website. They pretty much set the mood. So far UGAL has been supporting images for banners. It now gives you the ability to fully control the HTML code that is generated for the banner. Dangerous stuff!

How to enable HTML banners

The design tab now has a link to "Switch to an HTML banner":

Switch to an HTML banner

Click the link and you will be directed to a page where you can specify the banner's copy using either a rich text editor or by entering directly its HTML code.

The HTML banner will be live on your website as soon as you submit the form and can be modified at any time.

What can HTML banners be used for

Because you have full access to the HTML code, HTML banners can be used to display pretty much anything on top of your pages:

  • Links to localized versions of your website ("En Français", "In English").
  • Links to your most important pages ("Contact us").
  • A search engine form, if you do not like its default position (on top of the banner).
  • Why not Javascript animations or sliders.
  • Etc... etc...

Warning!

While we are very confident in the abilities of our Rich Text Editor, we strongly recommend to always double check the HTML code it produces. Because the banner code appears on every page of your website, you want to have it error free and well optimized for search engines. Contact UGAL if you have any doubt, we do not want you to break your website.

Enjoy HTML banners!
