Attach documents to your pages

A new feature just made it to all UGAL websites: you can now attach documents directly to your pages. The most common document types are supported (images, PDF, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and zip files) and you can upload as many document per page as you want. The only limitation is that each document cannot exceed 10MB.
How to attach documents
When you edit a news article, a portfolio project page or a product page, there is now a new "Documents" tab that works pretty much like the "Photos" tab:
From the right hand side of the page, browse for the document to upload. Give it an optional title (the file name is used if you do not provide a title) and click the "Upload File" button.
Once the document is uploaded, it will appear on the left hand side of the page. If you upload multiple documents, you can drag and drop down them to define their display order on the page.
Downloading the documents
The documents you have uploaded are listed at the bottom of the page. Clicking on the link for the document triggers a browser file download. Because UGAL sends the proper content type header to the browser, the visitor downloading the file will be prompted to open it using the software configured on his computer to handle that type of file. Fancy.
Is it the end of the filestore?
The new "Documents" feature replaces the filestore for its most common use, which is to make a document available to a single page of the website.
However, the filestore remains handy in a few cases:
- When you want to make a file downloadable from multiple pages of your website: upload it once to the filestore and link to the file's URL from as many places as you want. Examples are generic documents, like a PDF order form.
- When you want to link to the document from the content area of the page, instead of from the bottom of the page where the page Documents are listed.
Secured with the intranet
I am also excited about this new feature. I look forward to improving and working on my website soon. I hope that I can figure out how to use this, as it sounds like just the thing I would do......only you will most likely be hearing from me, asking for help. Thanks for the update.
